New Moose!

Wait a minute!  That's not him!  No antlers!
Is this a new moose?  A moose mate?
Does this mean baby moose are on the way?

More moose

For those of you who have asked, yes we do still have the moose.
We came back from 2 weeks vacation to find him napping
below the bird house.  I think he grew!

Moose Encounter

It was pretty dark and snowy this morning waiting
for the school bus.  Morgan got on the bus and Mr. B
motioned for me to come to his window.  Oh no.
What now.  He said he saw the moose again,
he headed him off the road and he was headed
toward our barn.
Here is our barn at 7:30 a.m. this morning.  If you
look closely you can see the moose at the top right
corner beside the fence.

Here he is!  He is huge!  I am on the upper deck taking
pictures.  I asked John if a moose can climb stairs.
He laughed.  I don't think moose can climb stairs.

This is the smartest move yet from this moose.
He is walking away.  Poor quality photos, but it's
really snowing out here.  Look at that rack!

Moose on the Loose

Did I mention how happy I was when we could turn
back our clocks?  This is Morgan's school bus
at 7:15 a.m.  It's dark!  We live in the mountains!
There are bears out here!

This is Mr. B, Morgan's bus driver.  He promised
to watch out for her.

So last week we were waiting at the end of the
driveway for the school bus.  I could hear it down
the road, I could see it down the road.  Mr. B
was driving back and forth, honking, what was
he doing?  He finally made his way to our house
and motioned for Morgan to hurry onto the bus.

Then he called me over to his window and said very calmly,
"IF YOU SEE A MOOSE, TAKE MORGAN INSIDE".

A moose?!  Are you kidding me?  He chased a moose
away from the road, it was headed toward Morgan and I
and we didn't even know it.

I went back inside and immediately googled MOOSE.
Was he going to eat us?  No.  But he could stomple us.
(Trample / Stomp, I like to make up words).
My husband thought I was being ridiculous.
My brother thought this was all quite amusing.
My sister was most sympathetic and relayed her own
terrifying moose story.  She survived.  Just barely.
She nearly had moose drool on her snowmobile suit.

Well, the weekend came and I had no reason to be
outdoors before daylight and had forgotton about
the moose.  Until Morgan called me outside and told
me the grass looked funny.

Moose Poop!
Eww!

We also have a black fox in the front yard

and a deer in the barn

Patio

When we bought our house there was a gravel area beneath the upper deck.  Just loose stones and cigarette butts, pewy!  Our general contractor Bill Sherrerd got a crew together and poured a cement base.  It was so fun to watch!

First they poured a base and laid in cross bars to
prevent cracks.

Check out this huge crane!  The cement mixer
was down at the barn and they pumped the cement
all the way up to the house.

Here it comes!

This guy had giant joysticks to operate the crane.

Smoothing, getting rid of all the glumps and clumps.

Almost finished, and tinted green!

All finished, and lots of wood stored for winter.

Happy Birthday John!

John's 50th was Friday.  We had a party and John's brothers came out from New York and Vermont.  It was awesome!

Haiku

I remember in 5th grade my teacher Mrs. Peterson asked us to write a Haiku - the 17 syllable
poem with 5 . 7 . 5 syllables per line.  Ridiculous.  I woke up last night and heard the leaves blowing and thought of Mrs. Peterson.  Okay, no laughing, here goes:

Aspens in the fall
Rustling secret whisperings
Like wings of angels

Okay, lame.  But stuck in my head.   R.I.P. Mrs. Peterson.
